Position Summary

Washington University in St. Louis (WashU), one of the nationâ™s premier private institutions of higher education, seeks applicants for the role of Assistant Director, Internships & Experiential Learning in the Center for Career Engagement. The WashU Center for Career Engagement is a centralized hub for career education and development for all WashU students. The incumbent will advance the WashU Center for Career Engagementâ™s strategic goal of providing access to internships and experiential learning opportunities to all WashU students.


The Assistant Director, Internships & Experiential Learning develops, maintains, and cultivates experiential learning opportunities for WashU students. Delivers programs and resources to increase student accessibility and engagement with internship opportunities and other relevant career-focused experiential learning opportunities. Identifies barriers to internship engagement and develops solutions to increase student access to internship opportunities. Assesses student internship and experiential learning participation. Promotes internship programs and opportunities to students, faculty, and other stakeholders.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain student programs related to internships, fellowships, research, externships, mentorship, job shadowing, micro-internships, and other experiential learning and high-impact practices for career engagement. Establish and maintain a database of campus-wide experiential learning opportunities. Promote program awareness and support student recruitment through appropriate communication channels. Manage financial stipend award process. Create and manage employer and community partnerships to develop opportunities.

  • Develop, implement, and assess programs, workshops and resources for professional development related to internships and experiential learning for students, faculty, staff, and community partners.

  • Coordinate evaluation of career readiness outcomes, best practices, and needs related to internships and experiential learning. Coordinate communication and outreach to students, employers, and campus and community partners.

  • Coordinate planning, recruitment, and implementation of Chancellorâ™s Career Fellows program. Lead coursework, coaching, and evaluation.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$53,100.00 - $90,600.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
