Department Summary


Life Sciences Computing is a centralized IT Services and Desktop Support unit that provides support to the Division of Life Sciences in the College of Letters and Science.

Position Summary



UCLA Life Sciences Division is seeking a skilled and motivated Web Developer to join our amazing IT team. You will play a key role in the design, development, and maintenance of our websites and web applications contributing to the excellence which has made UCLA the #1 public university. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on web-based systems that integrate campus data while ensuring compliance with IT security standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in web development, a passion for problem-solving, and is a great collaborator keen to the goals of the division.



Salary & Compensation

Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications



  • Demonstrated professional experience as a webmaster or web administrator. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience creating and customizing online content management systems. (Required)
  • Professional experience in Drupal and WordPress content management systems including development of themes, modules, and plug-ins. (Required)
  • Experience integrating campus Identity Management (IAMUCLA) standards and tools (e.g., Shibboleth, etc). (Required)
  • Experience and/or knowledge of the UCLA CashNet online payment service. (Preferred)
  • Professional experience as web content coordinator and developer in a LAMP environment. (Required)
  • Expert user knowledge of current Mac, Windows, and Linux operating systems. (Required)
  • Experience in hosting forms and controlling database access on Web server. (Required)
  • Experience with SSL security certificates in an Apache web server environment. (Preferred)
  • Experienced in IT security best practices to harden web servers and applications against external intrusion. (Required)
  • Experience in designing accessible websites for multiple platforms, browsers, and mobile devices. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing scripts for web server administration and general use. (Required)
  • Able to create and modify graphical images for the web. (Required)
  • Ability to provide one-on-one support and training. (Required)
  • Ability to perform independent research and make sound recommendations to the IT unit. (Required)
  • Ability to incorporate knowledge of University values and practices with regard to publicizing timely and accurate information. (Preferred)
  • Ability to work diplomatically with faculty, staff, and administrators; Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively. (Required)
  • Expert knowledge of protocols including DNS, REST and others. (Required)
  • Ability to test and effectively implement upgrades or enhancements. (Required)
  • Ability to train faculty, staff, and students. (Required)
  • Ability to keep abreast of emerging web technologies. (Required)
  • Knowledge of domain name registration process. (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of W3C standards and validation practices. (Required)


Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations



  • Bachelor's Degree In related area or equivalent professional experience (Required)
